Knee Pain
This condition also known as Patella mistracking or anterior knee pain is characterized by pain arising from underneath knee cap mostly during weight bearing activities. The condition may be caused by several factors such as decrease of the knee muscles strength, alteration of gate or inadequate loading of the knee joint. Proper gate and muscle strength analysis is essential for the successful treatment.
Ligaments sprains (ACL, MCL)
Trauma is an ultimate cause for the ligament sprains and tears. Symptoms may include moderate to sever pain during weight bearing, restricted mobility, swelling and joint instability. At the initial stages our goals are to reduce swelling, pain and inflammation as well as to regain functional Range of Motion. In the mid to long term it will be important to develop a proper muscle support in order to re-establish joint stability. Some severe cases will require surgical intervention with the following physiotherapy rehabilitation.
Meniscus (cartilage) tears
This term relates to structural damage of the knee cartilage, leading to functional impairment and pain. Common symptoms of the meniscal tear will be “locking” of the knee at the certain degree of bending or “give way”. Physiotherapy treatment will focus on regaining Range of Motion, strength and reducing pain and inflammation. Some severe cases will require surgical intervention (menisectomy) with the following physiotherapy rehabilitation.
Osteoarthritis
The most advanced degenerative condition resulting in moderate to sever pain during activities, weight bearing or in rest. Physiotherapy treatment should be initiated in most cases prior to surgical intervention. Our treatment goals will be to reduce pain swelling and inflammation as well as to increase functional abilities of the patient. The most successful treatments will include: acupuncture, electrotherapy, exercise programs as well as massage therapy.
Total Knee Replacement
Every pre or postoperative TKR patient will benefit from physiotherapy intervention.
Our goal will be to educate and instruct patient before and after procedure, minimize postoperative pain and swelling as well as to facilitate and return to the functional levels.
We can also tailor a home visit program hose patients who are unable to commute and structure a home visit program.
